All Grown Up

All Grown Up

More elbow room for (even) more family and friends.

  • Expansion of entry and porch

  • Outdoor covered patio

  • New studio and guest quarters

  • Garage overhaul for toys and storage

More of this story…

This home in the Mesa Verde track of Costa Mesa sees a bustle of constant activity and is a revolving door for friends and family members. Now that the kids are growing up, the house needed a bit more elbow room to accommodate these vibrant yet relaxed hangouts.

The design of this renovation was to help the original home grow up a bit into an energetic teenager. This 1960’s home expanded to add a bonus room with a secondary guest bedroom suite. We re-oriented the kitchen to better engage visitors and porch hangs on the front lawn while opening the kitchen to the rest of the dining and living spaces. The garage entry originally hit the middle of the kitchen, but now the newly extended garage creates space for an in-home laundry/mudroom and better transition from the garage. This vibrant home is now an even more welcoming environment for friends near and far and suits guests from grandparents to teens.

Happy homeowners.

“We’ve worked with ITZEN on several projects, and when a friend went against our advice and started a project without an architect we said “are you out of your mind?!” Not surprisingly, that project went over budget and way past deadline. Jana and William took the weight off our shoulders and alleviated the stress, working well with our contractor to figure out the inevitable issues when they came up. It was a unique collaboration and Jana is amazing.”
